Various small projects: for urgent smaller projects, contribution and more...

Why ? We wish to help some of our partner organisations to develop smaller, though nonetheless extremely useful, projects. Given their relatively modest size, these projects do not require a separate, dedicated action, as the usual image divided into blocks would be too small.
Moreover, given the innumerable needs in some of the countries of our partner organisations, we would like to be able to act immediately when we feel that a smaller, well prepared project is ready to begin straight away.
What type of projects? All types of projects, such as those that help children, for example by purchasing educational materials or through vaccinations and other preventative health care, or those that bring people closer to sources of water, by digging wells using specialised equipment. Then again, they could be projects to support essential development actions for a village or community. We have also seen many worthwhile projects that have been started but cannot be brought to conclusion for lack of funds.
Our first small project A small project has been submitted to us and supporting it will be our first priority. It consists in building a small school in the village of Deschapelles, department of Artibonite in Haiti. For the time being the Ecole Communautaire Mixte de Saint Jean Bosco has no classrooms. Some space is rented from the church. Simple panels separate the forms. This religious building does not resist the frequent, often heavy rainfalls of this region. When it rains, the roof, which is full of holes, does not protect the pupils and teachers who are flooded; the slightest shower means interrupting the lessons. Such a situation completely paralyses the normal functioning of the school. The Haitian state cannot face the expenses involved to solve the problem, and the area is one of the poorest of Haiti, which is the poorest country of the western hemisphere. Therefore it is most urgent to build a small school to house five classrooms in order to have an educational unit offering regular, normal teaching conditions, with furniture, sanitary installations and a place for playtime. We intend to add school stationery and books. 200 pupils, and many more after them, will benefit from that building. The amount needed is US$ 18’000. Our partner for this action: the NGO Nouvelle Planète, which has a permanent co-ordinating representative on the spot.
Our requirements We have strict requirements for these smaller projects. Those in charge of the projects must have demonstrable experience in the field. They must be able to explain, and subsequently satisfactorily justify, all expenses, both for supervision purposes as well as for our own accounts.
Whenever possible, we will purchase equipment or services required ourselves instead of handing over money. Where circumstances allow or require, we will mandate an independent person, such as an expatriate, to supervise the project’s progress and send us reports. As with our main projects, detailed records must be kept.
Updates As far as possible, we will provide regular updates, with photographs whenever possible, on our website.
